Atlantik Vintage Wordpress Theme

Note for visitors: the theme page is written in english to make it understandable to everyone. Presentation is 90% from the foliage mod presentation of 5thirthyone. There’s not so much to add, main difference between those two themes is the design and plugins’ choice.

Atlantik Vintage Theme is a Wordpress theme created and distributed by myself from the original Foliage Theme. It is my first public release therefore I ask Wordpress veterans to forgive me for my template-itis (and english-speaking users for my soo bad english).

Please check the installation notes below before installing. By downloading the above zipped package you agree to report any and all bugs that may arise to better future revisions to benefit the Wordpress community. Sharing is caring, it’s good for you and me.

Legal

The theme is distributed with a nice little GPL license. This means that if you download the theme, sing in praise of your new work, and then decide to re-distribute, the GPL license must stay intact.

Minor request: The Wordpress community is a mature crowd right? I’ve left my impression in the footer. Credit would be appreciated as I recently realized that I had spent more time on this theme than my previous one. If it’s not too much trouble, sending a link back this way would be just swell!

Installation

Follow these instructions and you’ll soon be up and running:

  • Read through this page in its entirety.
  • Make sure you’re running Wordpress 1.5 or 2.0+
  • Download the latest release above.
  • Unzip and review the folder contents.
  • Upload the included files (theme, plugins) respecting the folders/tree (root folder is the folder of your wordpress).
  • Login and navigate to Plugins and activate the necessary plugins.
  • Navigate to Presentation and activate Atlantik Vintage.

That should do it. Tweak the template to your hearts content and report back with any issues that may arise.

Questions

  • Will Atlantik Vintage break my sweet little Wordpress?: I would hope not. Everything seems A.O.K. here. See bugs list below.
  • Are there any required plug-ins?: Yes. There are four plug-ins : Gravatars2, Dustan’s Time Since, Recent Comments, WP Bling this! (optionnal bookmarking plugin) and Ultimate Tag Warrior - in use with Atlantik Vintage which are included with the download. Credit goes out to each respective plug-in author. Use at your own discretion. Feel free to drop a line if what I’m trying to do can be accomplished without plug-ins.
  • Why does your code look so messy?: I did it on purpose dammit! Atlantik Vintage is a perpetual work in progress. As such, the code may not be as sparkly as it could be. Everyone has their own methodology to work by. I’ll work by mine, and, well, I guess some will have to adapt.

Reported gnats

These aren’t so bad. Bugs are bugs are bugs. As annoying as they are, squashing them actually serves as challenging entertainment. As time progresses, each of these will eventually be lifted from the list.

Noteworthy

  • Note that your decision to utilize the included plug-ins is entirely up to you. You will however need to search through the template to replace any related strings if you do decide to do without.
  • Ultimate Tag Warrior uses existing tags to generate a related posts list under single posts.
  • Use the included tags.php template to generate a global tags page for your site.
  • Don’t use the WP Bling this! plugin won’t affect the display.
